Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) part-time (anticipated 10-15 hours per week) Student Communications position for Oregon State University Libraries and Press in Library Admin department.

This position works directly with Public Information Representative to creatively accommodate graphic design requests from within OSULP related to communicating library announcements, services, and events to the OSU community, utilizing Adobe Suite products such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign to create virtual and physical content in accordance with OSU brand and OSULP visual guidelines.
Student Graphic Design Assistants work with the Valley Library Graphics Team, producing communications material related to library announcements, services, and events. With this team, you will gain experience troubleshooting unique design solutions, shaped by your interests, input, and creative vision. You will engage in meaningful collaboration and development of team goals, building essential workplace skills including communication, time management, and inventive problem solving.

Position Duties

In this position, you will:
  • Attend and participate in weekly or biweekly Communications Team meetings
  • Create reusable and scalable graphic designs for virtual and physical presentation
  • Collaborate with clients to create engaging social media content.
  • Complete projects as directed by the Public Information Representative
  • With feedback from others, curate professional portfolio
As skill develop over time, additional responsibilities may include
  • Consulting with faculty and staff across the library on projects and design development.
  • Working with organizations across campus through outreach projects and building symbiotic relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

  • Proficient graphic design ability in Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Demonstrated copy editing skills
  • Enthusiasm for creative learning
  • Social media and/or digital media experience

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

  • Familiarity with multiple Adobe Suite products
  • Experience with project management and quality assurance

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

  • Starting pay is $16.90/hour
  • 10-15 Hours/Week
  • Expected schedule will be within the hours of M-F, 8-5, onsite only
