This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Analyst Programmer 2 position for the University Information and Technology department at Oregon State University (OSU).

As a division within Oregon State University, University Information & Technology (UIT) shares and supports the University’s mission by assisting the University to extend all programs, teachings, research and communication throughout the world. The services provided by UIT-TSA units, including Academic Technologies, Administrative Technologies, Infrastructure, Digital Experience, Digital Research, and Network Services, assist the University community by facilitating the transmission of knowledge and expertise to its members, thereby enhancing their ability to be productive, valued, and esteemed members of the University community, serving the State of Oregon. Services are provided to students, faculty, and staff for curricular, research, intellectual, and administrative activities and needs, as well as to the wider Oregon higher education and government community. There are approximately 175 faculty and classified employees in UIT, as well as 150 FTE student positions. UIT administers a total budget of $35+ million.

This position reports to the Senior Integrations Engineer in UIT-Data: Data and Information Architecture.

This position provides analysis and programming support for data integrations and APIs sourced from ERP systems (Workday and Ellucian Banner). As part of a dedicated team of application developers and analysts, the role focuses on creating new products and services using both existing and emerging technologies. Work is guided by structured application development and project management methodologies. Key responsibilities include enabling data migration/conversion, ERP integrations, and vendor connector implementations across major systems.
The incumbent collaborates with administrators and users throughout the design, analysis, development, and testing phases to enhance and maintain bulk and transactional data integrations. This includes developing inbound and outbound APIs/Data Processes for any University data essential to higher education operations

Key Responsibilities

45% – Architectural design for enhancements and modifications of vendor supplied software and custom applications:
Working with the Lead Integrations Engineer, and other programmer analysts across both DIA and the wider UIT Org, the incumbent will contribute to the architectural design for enhancements and modifications of vendor supplied software and custom applications. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Workday tools (i.e., Workday Studio, Workday Web Services, and/or Workday Extend) and products.
  • Oracle RDBMS and SQL database schema design
  • Development of processes via a data integration tool and/or API tools (Talend Open Studio, Boomi, PL/SQL, SQL, Google Apigee, Web Services and others) to integrate data from system to system.
  • Development and maintenance of schedules for delivery of data (i.e., using tools inherent in Workday, Boomi, and/or Automic Workload Automation job scheduling solution).
  • Development and maintenance of robust error handling functions to improve data quality.
  • Development and maintenance of clear and concise documentation for each integration
  • Providing the analysis, design and development for enhancements necessary for business processes.
  • Development and Maintenance/Enhancement of applications using SQL, Javascript/JQuery, Java/Groovy, HTML/XML, Python, PERL and other languages and products.
  • Troubleshooting application and data problems demonstrating problem analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Development of tools in a UNIX shell environment including SSH, Vim and Bash

25% – Architectural design for the implementation of vendor supplied software and development and implementation of custom applications:
Working with the Lead Integrations Engineer, the incumbent will contribute to the architectural design for the implementation of vendor supplied software and/or custom applications. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Developing applications using an iterative application development methodology to better align user requirements with application solutions.
  • Analyzing, designing, developing and documenting data migrations/conversions and integrations between existing and new administrative and academic systems.
  • Helping to devise an implementation strategy that is consistent with the overall project plan.

10% – Work collaboratively with users and provide guidance to peer analyst/programmers while following best practices in application development methodologies. This could involve team approaches to application design, peer code reviews, code quality assurance testing, version management, code migration, building sophisticated test cases, and standardized documentation of application functions and designs.

5% – Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills to provide a superb customer service experience. Incumbent is expected to be able to respond collaboratively to questions from users as well as peers in the organization. User questions may include requests regarding logic changes in existing programming or inquiries about major system functions. Peer questions would include requests for assistance in debugging new code as well as troubleshooting for system malfunctions.

10% – Participate as a member of the Integrations team. Time spent attending meetings, participating in team decision making, implementing solutions to team problems as well as assisting with other team functions. Incumbent is expected to participate in team discussions on best practices for new systems designs as well as modifications to existing software packages. These discussions could include reviews of logic diagrams, flow charts, coding practices and debugging techniques.

5% – Professional Development. Adapt to changes in Software Development and continue to develop programming skills.

What We Require

This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in systems analysis and related programming support functions generally obtained by a bachelor’s degree in computer science, or an equivalent amount of training and applied experience.

What You Will Need

  • Work experience using online computing systems, training in structured techniques and basic desktop computer software.
  • Examples of work experience with programming tools including tools like SQL, PL/SQL, Webservices (REST/SOAP), XSLT, HTML/XML, Perl/Python, Java/Groovy, or C.
  • Excellent interpersonal, team work, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively use these skills in the analysis, design and testing of applications for business solutions.
  • Ability to foster and promote the values of DEI and demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence in their work.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Knowledge and history of work with data integration tools such as Boomi or Talend Open Studio, or other data integration tools preferred.
  • Experience with Workday Studio, Workday Extend, Jira and/or Apigee
  • Ellucian Banner, Oracle SQL experience is desirable.
  • Specialized skills in new systems and programming technologies.
  • Knowledge of formal data structure design, relational database design, and file structures.
  • Ability to design data structures to maximize efficiency and flexibility.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

The initial work setting is within a team in cubical or hybrid cubical and remote work accommodations. It is also possible that this will be a fully remote position. The employee will accomplish the majority of the required work using a virtual desktop access via a laptop, or via SaaS applications accessed via a web browser. Hours beyond a 40-hour work week or outside the standard dayshift are rare but may be required on occasion to maintain the University operating schedule.
